Course Overview
This nationally recognised Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy course builds on standard first aid skills and prepares you to respond to high-risk, complex medical emergencies where advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy may be required. Training is delivered in line with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines and the First Aid Code of Practice. Through practical, scenario-based training, you'll learn how to use and maintain specialised resuscitation equipment, provide oxygen safely, and manage life-threatening conditions until emergency services arrive. This course suits people working in environments where oxygen equipment is available or where an elevated level of emergency response is required.

What You'll Learn
- Perform CPR on adults and infants
- Use bag-valve-mask (BVM) resuscitation equipment
- Use an AED safely and effectively
- Administer oxygen therapy at correct flow rates
- Insert basic airway adjuncts
- Manage life-threatening bleeding using tourniquets and haemostatic dressings
- Maintain and check resuscitation and oxygen equipment
- Monitor and record a casualty's condition
- Communicate incident details clearly to emergency services and complete incident documentation
Assessment
- 1Perform CPR on an adult (incl. the use of bag-valve-masks, oxygen equipment, an AED and placing the casualty into the recovery position)
- 2Perform CPR on an infant
- 3Manage a casualty with a life-threatening bleed and provide oxygen
- 4Complete an incident report
- 5Maintain resuscitation equipment
- 6Theory assessment: a written assessment consisting of multiple-choice questions
Entry Requirements
- HLTAID011 Provide First Aid must be completed prior to undertaking this unit of competency. HLTAID003 Provide First Aid is not equivalent to HLTAID011 Provide First Aid and cannot be used as a substitute
- An official form of photo identification (e.g. driver's licence, passport, or student ID)
- Physical capability to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstration skills including CPR and performing rescue breathing techniques on manikins. CPR must be performed on the floor with no exemptions
- Language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills: learning, reading, writing, oral communication, numeracy and digital literacy
- Access to a computer, smart phone, tablet or other electronic device with internet access to complete the online studies and assessment tasks
Delivery Mode
Online with face-to-face. The online pre-course learning and theory assessment takes approximately 1.5 hours, followed by at least 3.5 hours of face-to-face training and assessment, delivered in the workplace or at a facility organised by the training provider.
Certificate
Your nationally recognised digital Statement of Attainment for HLTAID015 Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy and HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is issued upon successful completion, typically within 24 hours via email.
Renewal
Advanced Resuscitation certification has an industry-recommended renewal period of 12 months, in line with CPR renewal requirements.
